Summary: Being the daughter of Life and Death means Eve has no real place. Her sisters give life and her brothers bring death. Eve just gets things mixed up. But as she turns 16, she decides she wants to find her own path, where she truly belongs. But her birthday also brings an unexpected twist in her relationship with her mother, Life, one that will inevitably lead to her true identity and place in the cosmos.
I have to be honest. YA really isn’t my cup of tea. I’ve been trying to write this for weeks now, but I don’t think I can write a balanced review. See previous sentence.
It’s not that this was a very good or very bad book. It was just more…meh for me. I was intrigued with Life, Death, the Repository that’s really just a massive library, the mythology. But, in the end, it’s about a teenage girl who doesn’t fit in anywhere and spends the whole book figuring out her place. A teenage girl who is the daughter who shouldn’t have come into existence, but who is just a teenage girl.
I wasn’t the typical teenage girl, so I couldn’t really relate or understand her. That’s also probably why I avoid YA in general. There’s just something about whiny teens who think they know better that just bothers me. (Also why I never finished reading Harry Potter. Don’t kill me!).
So, you see, this is probably typical YA, but I can’t do it justice since I don’t like these kinds of books.
Though I can say the overall writing drove me up a wall. It wasn’t terrible, but absolutely should have been better edited. Missing words, misused commas, mixed up words, etc. Sigh. It really detracted from my reading enjoyment.
Bottom Line: If YA is your thing, give it a try. If you’re anti-YA like me, it’s probably best if you pass, but I would never discourage anyone from reading anything without a fair try.

YES! It makes me go crazy when a book is poorly edited. I literally sit there and think “How did you not see that?”

The sad part is this book was published by the Kindle Scout program, so I now question their decisions. Shouldn’t editing be the most important thing a writer does?

Hmm, I don’t know too much about the Kindle Scout program…are the books included in the program supposed to be elite in some way?

Kindle Scout publishes books that enough readers have nominated over 30 days and that the Kindle Scout team also deems worthy of publication. It’s kind of a self-publishing and traditional publishing hybrid. The selected books are supposed to be reviewed before publication, but, obviously, someone dropped the ball with this book. It has the potential to be more interesting if more time and care had been put into it.

Haha! I get that alot, especially since I love fantasy. Though it is fun to watch people’s brains fizzle out as they try to puzzle it out.
