The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz. This is about people who have the ability to remember past lives and the secret society they have formed. I just started it last night and have to say it’s a lot more intense than I thought, but it’s totally drawn me in. It feels raw and gritty, and I just can’t stop reading.
What did you recently finish reading?
The Light of the Midnight Stars by Rena Rossner. This was such a beautiful Jewish-inspired historical fantasy that came off as being like a fairy tale. The writing is beautiful and dreamy and the sisters couldn’t have been more different, but were so closely bound.
Finding Home by Kate Field. The description promised an uplifting story of found family and true love, and it absolutely delivered. Where I expected a romance, it was more women’s fiction, and was nearly flawlessly done.
The Queen of Izmoroz by Jon Skovron. The second book in the Goddess War trilogy after The Ranger of Marzanna, this one closely follows the events of the first book and just cracks the world and the fissures in the empire wide open. I loved getting to explore the wider world and fell in love again with the story of a sister and brother on opposite sides.
Twilight’s Fall by J. Steven Lamperti. This was a short, quick fantasy read. Unfortunately, there wasn’t really anything that stood out about this book, except it’s listed as YA though the author assured me it would also appeal to adults, but actually came off as more like the few MG books I’ve read. Otherwise, I really liked the pace.
The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod. Wow, this one was a fun ride! It’s focused on childhood friends who have become estranged, but who come back together in a surprising way. There’s a huge focus on the indie music scene with a rising female band both of the main characters become involved with, but there’s also a surprisingly intense romance woven in.
The Memory Keeper by Jenny Hale. This one was so sweet. I loved that it’s set in Tennessee and I absolutely felt like I’d been transplanted to the South. It’s about grown people coming back home, finding themselves and finding family. It’s sweet and tender and absolutely lovely.
What do you think you’ll read next?
Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa. I have a physical ARC I can’t wait to get started on today, actually. It’s an African-inspired fantasy and the first in a new fantasy trilogy. I don’t actually know too much about it, but I’ve been enjoying African-inspired fantasies lately and this is being published by one of my favorite publishers, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy this.
