The Lily Cafe is thrilled to welcome you to our fourth author reading! Today I’m delighted to host the author of The Mermaids Melt at Dawn, Grendolyn Peach Soleil.
When I was first contacted by Grendolyn in 2020 about reviewing a book about mermaids, I had no idea what I was in for.
Grendolyn is an old soul, mermaid whisperer, and folk magic fiend, and her novels absolutely showcase her unique and beautiful perspective on life and magic. The Mermaids Melt at Dawn, from which she’ll be reading today, is an astounding, lyrical, haunting, dark fairy tale that effortlessly blends Cajun folklore, mermaids, and Greek mythology. In her unique and magical way, Grendolyn deftly weaves every element to create a fairy tale all her own, drawing the reader deep into her world and making them believe they’ve stepped right into it.
But that’s just the start. Grendolyn is a master storyteller with an incredible, beautiful, lyrical voice. Her second novel is the first in The Chronicles of Granny Witch series, Snow Dust and Boneshine. A gorgeous blend of Western and paranormal romance, it’s so much more than that, and even managed to charm me, someone who doesn’t read Westerns at all. It weaves a tale of what could have been true, slowly reeling readers in.
Every time I think of Grendolyn’s novels, I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to read them, to revel in them, to get goosebumps as I remember the beautiful voice and cadence she writes with. So I’m delighted and honored to have her here today, to read from The Mermaids Melt at Dawn.
Without further ado, enjoy a description of The Mermaids Melt at Dawn followed by the reading.
About The Mermaids Melt at Dawn
Faraway, on the edge of a sapphire sea, there’s a fabled island where Cajun folklore meets Greek mythology, where the bayou meets the sea, and where humans meet mermaids.
On the surface, The Mermaids Melt at Dawn appears innocent enough, but the swamp hags and sea witches of old remind us that appearances can be deceiving. Filled with fascinating characters, a touch of romance, some wicked twists, and a dash of magic, The Mermaids Melt at Dawn is a captivating voyage for fans of historical fiction, fairy tales, and mythology.
From the Louisiana swamps to the wild waters of Barbiche Island, Rok Lejeune embarks on a nautical adventure to the mystic island of mermaids, but Rok is not the only creature with a story to tell. Barbiche Island is home to a pair of warring mermaid sisters, power-hungry Poseidon, petulant gods, and other mysterious monsters. The mermaids of Barbiche Island sing of love, survival, and betrayal, but will they answer the burning question? Why do the mermaids melt at dawn?
Please welcome Grendolyn Peach Soleil!
Thank you so much, Grendolyn! It was an incredible pleasure to have you here today.
