And it’s summer here in Southern California! Wait, I take that back. We’re back to spring. After temperatures got seriously close to 100 degrees late last week, it’s nice to finally plunge 20+ degrees. Though spring is a fun time for us as the song birds and pigeons make their return to torment my cat. I just wish they would be a lot less noisy. If it’s not one bird, it’s the other!
Let’s Catch Up a Bit
This week is my daughter’s Spring Break, but my son’s was last week, so it’s been kind of never-ending school here. Since last week was also my blogging break, my son and I had some fun together, baking a bit and playing with Legos. He also helped me style some pictures I’ll be using for my book review posts. My daughter’s been having a great time in school and really loves playing around with the other girls. As for house hunting, we’re stalled. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve been beaten out, though I will say I haven’t really loved any of them so far. But that’s ended up being okay and we’re experiencing a lot less pressure because we got our kids into a really good elementary school (the plus of being in a big school district – lots of choices, but also lots of applications and finger crossing).
In other news, I’ve been working on my next story for almost 2 weeks, just Monday through Friday for now since weekends are spent looking at houses. I should be at 20,000 words by the end of today, but I’m already starting to question half of how I’m telling the story and worrying it’s too slowly paced. I think this is the first time since I was 12 that I’ll be looking forward to getting eyes on it when it’s finished.
Lastly, are people more interested in baking these days? Usually, when I take a look at what my top post and page are, especially during my breaks, it’s usually my review page that gets the most views. But, over the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen that one of my baking posts and a couple of my baking pages have been the top ones. On my blog, I also have a list of the top posts, and, at the time I’m writing this, most of them are baking posts. So it has me wondering: is this a time of the year when people are baking? Well, I hope their muffins, cakes, and bread turn out delicious! And good luck to all the bakers out there!
What’s Up Next
Well, a good number of book reviews. Not nearly as many indie books as I’d like, but I’ve been closed for a good chunk of time to requests, mostly because I still have some from February I haven’t gotten around to because I’ve been crying since then at how behind I am with everything. I’m choosing to not look at how many unanswered emails I have in my inbox and how many comments have been piling up.
I’m also hoping to finish posting Sisters of String and Glass before my next break. I haven’t scheduled it all out yet, but I hope it works out. After it finishes, I have another story to share with all of you. I wrote it several years ago and self-published it before un-publishing it. It’s been languishing for awhile now, so I thought this would be a good time to share it since I’m working on a story I’d like to get published one day (as in not self-published because I learned that’s not the route for me, at least not right now), but I’ll share more on that later.
I have a couple other ideas I’m working on, but no promises.
Anyone have anything exciting coming up the next couple of months? Any upcoming posts you’re excited to share?
Sincerely, kat

Enjoyed reading this! It’s interesting that house hunting is actually so tasking: the movies and tv shows always make it look like a very ‘romantic’ process 😆
I hope you find the perfect home soon!

Thank you! We’ve spent years watching house shows and it definitely looked a lot easier and very fun. It’s probably just the current market making things so difficult, but we hope to find our perfect home soon, too!

I’m glad you got your kids into a really good elementary school. I remember how stressful that all is. And, I’m sorry the house buying is still not ending in a house you love. I can’t even imagine. Hope you have a great week!

So are we! It’s definitely a relief, and we just wish the same would happen with a house, but alas, there are far too many people with a lot more money out there. Thanks, and I hope you have a great rest of the week, too!

That housing market is rough right now! Utah has been slammed and has caught up to California -but I heard interest rates are going up so that should help stabilize things. Or crash things. We’ll see. Either way, I hope you get a house.

Me, too. Things are certainly up and down and all over the place. My husband told me earlier today that interest rates are back down, so who knows what’s going on. It’s just annoying and frustrating. I guess this will definitely be a story when my kids are preparing to buy their own homes.

Ugh on the house stuff! I’m sorry it’s being so frustrating. Maybe the perfect house will come your way down the road and all the waiting will be worth it.

I hope so! We have that conversation daily. Just wish it would come sooner rather than later, haha.
