The Curated Bookshelf: August 2022’s Theme

Welcome to this month’s Curated Bookshelf! August 7th is National Friendship Day, which also happens to be the day my daughter gets to meet some of her Kindergarten classmates at a school-organized playdate. August also means both of my kids will be back in the classroom, and hopefully making some new friends. So, in the spirit of that, and ardent wishing they’ll adjust and make a friend this academic year, The Curated Bookshelf will be featuring Books with Friendships.

I was fortunate to meet my two lifelong best friends early on in life, age 2 and third grade. Unfortunately, due to frequent moving and the pandemic, my kids have never really gotten the chance to make a lifelong friend. Where we are now, we have more of a chance to be settled long-term. They’ll get to go to school together for the next few years, but I hope they have more than just each other to get them through the coming school years. In the wake of recent events, I’m terrified of sending my kids back to school, but where I live has stricter gun laws (for now) and I have faith in our district as, when my son was in Kindergarten, his school kept him safe on two occasions. But my most fervent wish for them is that they make friends, that they have someone they can lean on and someone they can support, that they have the opportunity to create a strong bond to someone they’re not related to by blood. Certainly, friendships can turn, but, with my friends and I finally all on the same continent this month, I can hope they’ll meet someone they’ll still call friend in thirty years.

This month, I’ve chosen 12 books that feature friendships, some good, some that turned, and some that are just improbable but interesting.

Throughout this month, I’ll be giving each book its own Highlight post. I’ll discuss why I chose that particular book as well as put a spotlight on it, other reviews, and multiple purchase links. As I mentioned when I first introduced The Curated Bookshelf, I won’t earn a cent if you choose to use one of the links to purchase a book (I am not affiliated with any purchase sites), but the author/publisher will. Choose wisely?

I’m excited to share the 12 books I’ve chosen, and they’ll remain on the shelf until August 31st. On September 1st, there will be a new set of books and a new theme.

Feel free to check out all the books I’ll be highlighting on The Curated Bookshelf from the menu or via this link.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy August’s books!
