• A Starry Night

    When I was nine, I wrote my first poem. It was for my dad for Father’s Day because, being nine, I didn’t actually have any money to buy him anything. But I wanted to give him something special. So, I ventured into the realm of poetry writing, not really knowing what it was. I wrote it out on a piece of white paper and created a paper frame decorated with stars of all sizes. I don’t remember much after that, but I know my dad displayed it for a while. In honor of Father’s Day, here is that poem. And a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.…

    I remember Things I shouldn’t. I remember So clearly the past. I remember That very night. Stars shining brightly Gibbous moon bathing us With silver light. I remember When you left me To save yourself. I remember The pain The sorrow The tears The emptiness The hate When you said good-bye. I remember The cold sweeping Sweeping through me. I remember.

    On that quiet, lonely hill Under the bright, starry night So peaceful and calm And time stood still. The sun set in the West Waves crashing on the shore So peaceful and inspirational And time stood still. In the middle of a crowd Children screaming Music blaring So loud, yet unheard And time stood still. On a busy sidewalk Christmas Eve in New York Faint stars overhead Just stand and look up The crowd rushing by Unnoticed by the standing figure And time stood still.
