A Brief Tour of Some Changes

I mentioned before my break that there would be changes to this blog. I’m delighted that almost all of it has been done, though it was all extremely easy and absolutely makes my life as a blogging mom so much easier. It also gives me more time to read, which is amazingly nice.

The Mother’s Corner is Semi-Closed

As I mentioned, I’m cutting back on the motherhood posts. The Mother’s Corner is still accessible, but I won’t be posting my Finding Magic in Motherhood series anymore, nor will I be posting quite as many parenting-related posts. As much as I had enjoyed writing about being a mom, I don’t find it gives me as much pleasure anymore. It might be because there are other things occupying my mind or simply because I need a break from my kids now that the coronavirus has closed schools for an indefinite amount of time and I need my blog to be able to escape my everyday life.

I also find I need to protect my children even more than before. I have never shared their names or even photos of them here or on any social media outside of personal, private accounts that are strictly for people I actually know or am related to. I now no longer feel comfortable talking about them and what they’ve been doing as much, especially since my oldest is almost 6 and feeling very private about his life. So, I’m respecting his wish for privacy by not talking about my children much. Instead, I’ll keep a piece of this blog as a personal journal for them, detailing important events going on in the world, like this pandemic, and writing about what life is like for us. None of it will be found in the Mother’s Corner. It’ll definitely be findable here, but I’m going to hide it here and there.

Books and Baking Here I Come

I’m an avid reader and a person who can’t for the life of her stop baking. Outside of raising my kids, it’s these two things that really make me happy. I love reading and I love baking, so I’ll be posting more book and baking posts. I’m not going to create any specific schedule for them as I want to have more fun, but I expect most of my reviews will still be posted on Thursdays, and Fridays will probably usually have a baking post. Habits are, after all, hard to break, and this has been my habit for about 2.5 years.

On the Bookshelf you’ll be able to find my book reviews, my thoughts on reading and books, the few author interviews I do, book blog tours, and book excerpts.

My baking posts will be divided into two kinds: adventures and recipes. I’ve been ratio baking since January of 2019, so it’s been quite an adventure trying out the different ratios and playing with them. My attempts to make things will be documented as an adventure. Sometimes I’m lucky and something works really well, so I develop what I like to call ratio recipes from them. They’re recipes that rely on a kitchen scale. I tried converting the weights into cups and teaspoons, but it didn’t work out well because weights are so much more accurate. But they’re still recipes and they’ll be filed as recipes.

The Writer’s Lounge

Not too much to report here. I’m still writing and sharing Queen of the Garden of Girls, which was inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Whenever that story is finished, I plan on picking another story to work on and share. They’re all first drafts that will then sit for, oh, several years before I stumble on them again and do something with them. Maybe.

Guest posts can also be found here, as they have been. I’m also starting something new: Short Fiction. Once in a while I do enjoy writing some short, short stories. I have a couple collecting dust in my draft folder, so I decide now would be a good time to finally blow the dust off and let them see light. They probably won’t be regular as I enjoy writing longer works.

The Weekends

Now, The Lily Cafe has only really been open during the week. My husband used to be the weekend manager as he posted on Saturdays, but work and life got in the way, so we’ve been closed on the weekends. But there’s something I’ve been wanting to do for the past few months, but never had the space to do so. I finally decided to open on the weekends. At least a little.

After blogging for 2.5 years, I have quite a few posts from 2 years ago that I still enjoy stumbling on and seeing what my life and writing were like. I’d like to share that as there are always new followers who don’t know those posts exist. So, I’ll be re-sharing old content, but not as a reblog.

My plan is to go back and find the posts that I really enjoy, spruce them up with commentary, and post them on either Saturday or Sunday. Since they’re not a part of my regular schedule and may not even have anything to do with books, baking, or writing, they’ve been relegated to the weekends as something just for fun. Feel free to stop by and maybe enjoy a good giggle, but they’re not a part of the regular program here. It’s just something fun for me to do.

I hope you’re as excited about these changes as I am. There’s one more component I’m hoping to add soon, but only time will tell on that one. I’m really looking forward to having more fun and taking a more casual approach to this blog. The best part is, it’s laid back enough that I have more time to read! I’ll still be posting Monday-Friday (though Tuesdays might be hit and miss) and then once on either Saturday or Sunday, or maybe I’ll skip a weekend if I forget, but none of it should strain my already exhausted brain.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I do!
